Our very own Chad House @uvchad helped design this creative application of our commercial series UVC light system utilizing custom ductwork, a variable speed blower and a MERV 11 filter media. It was designed to constantly recirculate and purify the air throughout this facility and dramatically improve indoor air quality.

Their primary concern was sterilizing airborne viruses such as kennel cough, providing a much safer environment for our furry friends. This was also an excellent investment to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 amongst the employees and customers, helping to keep everyone safe and healthy.

The United States recently passed the 2020 “CARES” Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security). CARES included a change to the tax code to ensure QIP (Qualified Improvement Property) investments benefit from an expedited tax deduction for the full project cost.

CARES enables building owners to enhance their building’s Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) with HVAC products ranging from filters to entire systems. For commercial buildings, the HVAC equipment cost for 2020 projects may be fully deducted as a business expense, and the most recent update in 2021 continues to further incentivize IAQ installations. We know indoor air quality can contribute to the health and safety of occupants, as well as structural integrity. The CARES Act provides the potential for significant cost savings now and in the future, from energy expenses to maintenance costs.

Now, non-residential building owners can capitalize on HVAC and mechanical system upgrades and replacements. The CARES Act can also be leveraged with additional utility rebates making the project/product investment even more attractive. The added benefit is that this tax benefit is retroactive now through January 1, 2018, for QIP costs incurred.

Ventilation, Filtration & UV Disinfection! A strategy for safer and healthier buildings. The CDC issues all-new building guidance & recommendations for schools & child care programs for control of aerosol transmission. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made strong recommendations regarding the strategies facilities can implement including “UVGI…as a supplemental treatment to inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19, especially if options for increasing ventilation and filtration are limited.” It’s so important and exciting to see the inclusion of tested, validated technologies and strategies that schools can implement today and tomorrow for improving indoor air quality.

Here’s the CDC update as of February 26, 2021: Consider using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) in schools and non-home-based childcare programs as a supplemental treatment to inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19, especially if options for increasing ventilation and filtration are limited.
